I have studied a sound healing diploma twice with the amazing Othman Haddad, but thanks to the pandemic I have still not completed my case studies. It hasn’t stopped me working endlessly, so I intend to enrol in 2024 to take another course with again another new focus other than sound-bath and 1 to 1. I am building a new convergence of sound and environment using my new understanding of music as medicine and sound healing. There have been times where voice-work and toning have shown me new courage, strength and resilience and has shown me places in my body where I need to go, and neurological freedom where before I felt trapped and in pain. I sat an advanced course with John Stuart Reid which started, refreshingly with a module in the therapeutic power of red light, about vibration medicine and have been including the knowledge in my sound work and practise. He gave me a new understanding of how sound and the body work, and what types of sound activate healing in the body.
My journey has also taken me closer to friends who also practice types of massage therapy and zen practise with Anthony Fiddler, a new way to weather storms, towards a touch practise and also resilience with less drugs for those who suffer a severe mental impairment, so overcoming this more using kinds of presence and coming away from fear, by moving away from older understandings and labels. I have learned from my friend Yoko, who is passionate about her massage therapy and a deeper understanding about health and nutrition that above all I must include touch when I think about my journey with sound, while using the traditional sound healing tools. I have experiments to come and I’m working towards opening a sound clinic and also to remember my convergence with kites and music/ sonic art and technolody. This year (2023) I am recording Gong, Shaman drum and bowels in preparation for a new project. These will be bowed and I have been practising co-resonance playing the drum and gong so they resonate into each other. This has taught me valuable lessons about how my body and voice work. My new research is about exploring my environment living in London, while the city goes through advances in transport towards a new model of transference which I work on using modern software and a 12 microphone array which I am building into my bicycle trolley with tools at South London Makerspace.
Fusion Fund recently sponsored a project with MC Geezer, aka Matthew Taylor, Deaf Rave, (actually that means very loud)! We spent time together working with a subpac tactile bass wearable to figure out the tactile vibration stuff that I believe will work so well with my proposal for a therapeutic kite library, towards making more somatic tools, by the way. Things branched off towards catastrophe as tragically disabled musician Lyn Levett passed away of covid during the first early covid outbreak and she was also going to work with me as funded to help modulate sound during a kite-ballet and musical performance at Blackheath, the time after that has been very fragmented for all my project work as I have been moving house constantly away from supported living while I’m also disabled on the trail of independence, but anyway this year I gave Blackheath and kites a miss.
Now I am working on matching a nice quality mobile 12 microphone recording array with an indoor spacial setup so onwards to explore spacial mappings towards a future where I have met a co-therapist who would like to join me in triage and help people out there during their healing progress. I am exploring movement within a spacial context while adopting IRCAM’s ASAP tools which are also new as well as the new similar spectral processing inside TX Modular to develop a composition technique informed by cycling around the city and going back to mapping sound using grids on the TX Modular but this time with modern spacial and also informed by my teacher Otto, who came and visited me in my sonic space during the diploma, and hopefully then towards a new therapy tool most likely! So please look out for future developments on my very real quest towards independence over sound and music as a way of life!
I have a few audio files Matthew and I generated during our fusion fund work, while also finding the sweet spot on the bass. I will revise and share what I can from before the covid disruption, we made some progress with spectral tools to transfer information into the domain of the body, nose and less for my ears ! To be revised as intended after my new work and integrate the learning so that I can offer kite-ballet with the localised vibroacoustic resonance that has been informed by all this new learning. So thanks to experts Yoko, John, Stuart, and Anthony!
